Dietitian Carrie Mark-Why I started using Life Priority supplements..

Lift Caps have the energy and mental stamina I need!

As a dietitian I advise that you try and get all the nutrients you need through food, but realistically getting 100% of all required nutrients on a daily basis through food can be a challenge; since everyone’s lives are so busy, and hectic, and processed food is always just around the corner to choose. That’s why I started using Life Priority supplements. These products are not only made with the highest quality of ingredients but they have been proven to provide the nutrients they say they will.

Life Priority Lift Caps

One of my favorites is the Lift Caps. The Lift Caps not only provide you with all your B vitamins but they provide many other essential vitamins as well that give me the energy boost I need to get through my days of working, working out, and parenting. When I first received the sample I wasn’t sure about the product and I thought it would be much like other supplements that I have taken, and I wouldn’t notice a difference at all by taking them. But, I was quickly proven wrong with just one use.

I take the Lift Caps every day and every day I am amazed at the amount of energy they provide me. Before I started taking the Lift Caps I would catch myself not wanting to work on projects for work, work out, and I dreaded the after school routine of homework, lessons, practice and dinner. Now I don’t dread it at all, as I have the energy and mental stamina to get me from work, to the gym, to the after school routine with my kids.

I would recommend Lift Caps to anyone who is feeling like they just don’t have the energy. You will be surprised and amazed at the results and how much better you will feel after just one day of taking them.

Supplements and Stress – The value of Omega3 and Phosphatidlyserine on helping to reduce stress.

Significantly reduced stress measures after taking phosphatidylserine

One of the more potent dietary supplements for combating the effects of stress is omega-3 fat. Increasing omega-3 fats in the diet, especially docosahexanoic acid and phosphatidylserine can reduce stress hormone levels in both animals and humans. Supplementation with a specific omega-3 fats, phosphatidylserine has been shown to reduce a number of stress-related hormones such as adrenocorticotropic hormone and cortisol in both animals and humans.

Studies have shown that taking phosphatidylserine after a physically stressful event, such as long-distance running, weightlifting or competitive cycling, can reduce the usual increasing cortisol levels, reduce muscle soreness and accelerate recovery. Phosphatidylserine also can reduce the stress from demanding mental and emotional activities. Since phosphatidylserine levels decrease in the brain as we age, studies in the elderly have shown that phosphatidylserine supplementation can improve both long-term and short-term memory, cognition and logical thinking.

However, these results do not seem to be consistently reproducible. Some studies show a significant benefit, and other studies demonstrate either limited benefit or no benefit whatsoever. The question is “why are these results so different?” The answer may be that those participants who respond poorly to stress may benefit the most from phosphatidylserine. A study inadvertently composed of participants who have a difficult time handling stress, may skew the results toward a positive outcome. In contrast, if the study is composed of individuals who handle stress more easily, the results would probably trend toward no benefit.

One recent German medical study looked at the effect of supplementation with phosphatidylserine on subgroups of participants undergoing a mentally stressful test. In this study, participants were divided into two basic groups, one group receiving phosphatidylserine and the other group receiving a placebo. The patients then underwent psychologically stressful testing. A number of psychological and physiological stress parameters were followed throughout the duration of the study. The results were then stratified into people who respond strongly to stress and those who don’t respond very strongly to stress.

The results were interesting. For individuals who do not respond very strongly to stress, phosphatidylserine supplementation did not seem to be of benefit. In contrast, individuals who responded strongly to stress, saw significantly reduced stress measures after taking phosphatidylserine. In this subgroup, phosphatidylserine was very beneficial.  Phosphatidylserine is derived from soy and is generally recognized as safe by the FDA. The best dietary sources of phosphatidylserine are in seafood rarely found in the American diet: mackerel, herring and eel. For those who are under chronic stress (and are feeling the effects), phosphatidylserine supplementation seems to be to be a reasonable option. During stressful times of the year, I use it myself.

Stress less with Music

Stress can take its toll on your body, and not handling that stress can be even worse. Finding a good outlet to unwind is strictly up to you. I suggest music.

I need a personal assistant, as I always manage to pack my days from beginning to end with various different tasks, events and plans. Everything from work and working out to obligations with friends. Unfortunately, I do not have a personal assistant, and it’s not uncommon for me to overbook myself and spread myself too thin. Having several different things I’m passionate about, leaves me wanting to be everywhere doing everything at once! Now that It is the holiday season, I have to fit shopping and family parties into the mix, which makes things even more intense and exhausting!

So what do I do when I think I’m about to spin out of control or simply pass out? The answer lies embedded in so many of my memories. For as long as I can remember, I have always turned to music. When I was on the bus to an away basketball game, after a longMan on treadmill day of class and friends, I would put on my headphones to unwind. Humming to myself, eyes closed, I would listen to the calming tones of The Vines. My mind would instantly go from running in circles to standing still, and fully focused on the game.

When I leave the house in the morning, my mind is already running through all the different tasks that lie before me, and it’s not uncommon for me to forget things in the mix! But it has been proven that music can help your memory! Knowing this, I wrote a little song to help me remember the basics! I sing, “don’t forget your phone, keys or purse, because that is the worst”. That’s right, I have been known to forget my purse, but when you have so many distractions, things get left behind!

There have been several other times in my life that I have found a sweet comforting calm in the arms of a good song. One time in particular happened my senior year of college. I was wrapped up in classes, cheerleading, choir, church and friends, when I received a call from my sister. My mom had fallen very ill, and needed to be hospitalized. I rushed home from Iowa to be with her, and stay up with her in ICU overnight. As she screamed in pain, weaving in and out of sleep, I sang to her. I sang old church hymns and Jason Mraz songs, all of our favorites. As the sun came up, she finally fell asleep, right as I was losing my voice. To this day she doesn’t remember that night, as the medication and her condition at that time wiped her memory of those hours. As I left in the morning (since my sister was there to stay with her) the overnight nurses of the ICU thanked me for singing and bringing comfort to the other patience. I’m glad I was able to bring music to that place of high stress and tension, but I wasn’t singing for them. I was singing for myself. In the wake of senior year stress, and my mother’s illness, I was singing to myself to find calm in the hurricane of life. I don’t know if I would have made it through the night without those old familiar songs to ease the weight of stress and worry on my heart.

In the hustle of life, it’s easy to get lost in the comings and goings and all the things that seem so important. But none of those things are more important than your personal health.  as it has the power to take you back to the first time you heard that song and really felt what it means. A song can simply help you breathe.

Greg Pryor: Fighting the Stress of Post Season Baseball

Greg Pryor- Life Priority offers the following products that allow you to touch all of your nutritional bases so put them into your daily nutritional “lineup”

KC Royals 1985 World Series Win
KC Royals 1985 World Series Win

After I attended my first MLB game in Cleveland, Ohio as a 7-year-old, I became “addicted” to baseball.  Fortunately I was able to spend 16 seasons as a professional player (5 seasons for the Kansas City Royals).  I have experienced the depths of stressful feelings that baseball can create, on and off the field.  Last season, all KC Royals fans were treated to one of the best postseason runs in baseball history.  I noticed a resurgence of incredible love for Royals baseball from thousands of “veteran” fans and new ones.

We were constantly on the edge of our seats during the month of September and October as we lost work time and sleep!  Some of us forgot what day of the week it was! From the glorious night of last season’s Wild Card game versus the Oakland A’s to the last out of the World Series….WE FELT STRESSED!

The ’15 Royals team has been so much fun to watch from spring training to the inevitable day we clinched our first American League Central Division title since 1985! We are thinking ahead of who our opponents might be in the Division playoffs, and, hopefully, the American League championship and World Series game. Again, it is STRESS time for many Royals fans!

As a co-owner of a health and nutrition company for the past 20 years (lifepriority.com), this is a great time to inform you about how stress affects us and offer some information that might help increase your natural defense systems to deal with the stress in our lives, especially all Royals fans!

Stress is the body’s natural response to threatening situations, and it affects everyone. Stress can be good, like buying a

brainnew car, or bad, like running up credit cards. Either way, your body and mind react to such situations with a heightened state of readiness, which is called the “fight or flight” response. This reaction causes your brain to make hormones including adrenaline and cortisol.

Adrenaline gives you more energy by increasing your heart rate and blood pressure.  Cortisol increases the amount of glucose in your blood and impairs bodily functions that might be harmful in a fight or flight situation, such as digestion and reproduction. This can help you perform well on a test or at a sporting event, but it can also distract you, keep you up at night, and make you lose your appetite.

Stress becomes chronic when your body does not shut off its stress response, so you are always in a heightened state of readiness.  This affects your immune system and can lead to mental and physical health problems.

One of the ways that you can defend yourself is to make sure that you provide your body with stress-reducing nutrients through your diet. To ensure that your diet provides you with enough of those nutrients, you should consider supplementing your diet with a potent, high-quality multi-vitamin with adequate amounts of B vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin D3, and omega-3 fatty acid. Life Priority offers the following products that allow you to touch all of your nutritional bases so put them into your daily nutritional “lineup”: One Per Meal Lifeguard, Sunlife, Omega-3 Priority, Vita C2, Lift and Mind.  Read about these great products and other Life Priority products at www.lifepriority.com today!

Energy Boost

With the temperatures reaching record numbers lately, it can be a challenge to get out and do much of anything. Most of us would rather curl up in a dark, air-conditioned room than spend time under the blazing sun outside.

But what if it’s not just the heat that’s making you tired? What if a lack of energy has been a struggle for you for more than the last few months? If so, know that you’re not alone. Millions of Americans feel the same way. That’s why we at Life Priority want to offer a few tips on how to increase your get-up-and-go even when the heat is on!

First, it’s a good idea to examine what may be zapping your energy. Common culprits include lack of sleep, an unbalanced diet, lack of exercise, not enough sunlight, dehydration and, of course, outside forces like cell phones and technology. On top of that, you may be experiencing high stress levels from work or family or have undiagnosed health issues such as anemia, hyperthyroid or low blood sugar. To be completely sure, we encourage you to schedule an appointment with your doctor to get a thorough exam.

While your doctor may discover an internal cause for your lethargy (which is why it’s important to get checked out), there’s a good chance that your energy level could be enhanced simply by incorporating a few changes into your lifestyle.

To start, take a look at your diet. Are you consuming a lot of processed, sugary snacks and beverages? Sugar can cause your blood sugar to spike and then crash, leaving you tired and foggy. Instead of cookies, candy or potato chips, try snacking on fruits or nuts. The protein in nuts sustains you longer than refined sugar, and fruits such as bananas have helpful nutrients like potassium, which converts blood sugar into energy.

Next, get moving! Exercise stimulates blood flow and prevents all kinds of diseases and health problems. It also helps your mentality by releasing feel-good hormones into your body and helps you sleep better at night, which gives you more energy during the day. It doesn’t take much—just 30 minutes a day 3-5 times a week–to feel the effects. Plus, getting out and moving also allows you to unplug from the world and just enjoy nature. (Though, with these temperatures, it might be good to enjoy that nature early in the morning while it’s still tolerable.)

Beyond diet and exercise, it is also important to get enough sleep. Most Americans are underslept, falling far short of the recommended 7-8 hours of sleep per night. This not only decreases energy, but also facilitates diseases and other health issues. Set an alarm in your home to help you remember to head to bed at a time that allows you to get the recommended total of shut-eye. Yes, it will take discipline, but your body will thank you!

With the big three of diet, exercise and sleep being covered, there are also a few other tricks you can try when it comes to increasing your energy. For instance, try popping a mint or chewing a minty gum. The scent ups alertness by stimulating your trigeminal nerve, which is the same nerve that’s activated by smelling salts. Or, consider drinking a cup of green tea. It contains theanine, which calms you while leaving your mind clear. Finally, if possible, take a power nap. According to Harvard research, 30-minute midday naps prevent energy from flagging further, while hour-long naps actually boost energy and performance. And, if all else fails, take the advice of Jacob Teitelbaum, M.D., the medical director of the Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Centers and massage your ears. A quick 30-second rub stimulates energizing acupuncture points that give you a quick mental boost.

We Americans are so busy that we don’t often prioritize the things that give us life and vitality. However, if we want to regain our strength and be able to enjoy our day-to-day, we need to start treating our bodies with care and giving them what they need. So, take our advice and get serious about regaining your energy. Talk to your doctor and start incorporating healthy habits into your routine. Then, enjoy the boost of life and joy that comes your way!

For Focus & Clarity, Reach for Choline, Not Caffeine

Memory, focus and clarity of thought and mind are vital daily functions. The various stressors of the day and countless challenges that face us can be daunting. Usually people reach for caffeine to achieve that extra boost, but often are left disappointed because that caffeine infusion only lasts for a certain period of time. After that high wears off, people can feel like they’re running on empty which is never good, but there is another solution; a natural solution.

After more than 20 years of research from scientists all over the world, Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw, two top research scientists, developed Mind, which uses a natural approach to keeping your mind running at maximum proficiency. Acetylcholine (ACh) helps your mind with retention and alertness. These two things are crucial for our daily activities, but in order to obtain the right amount needed, people would have to eat too much food. In addition, caffeine doesn’t help produce more acetylcholine, so Pearson and Shaw developed Mind. They created Mind in a well-balanced formula of choline and B-5 to help create more acetylcholine.

Using Mind as a dietary supplement can potentially boost your memory and mental clarity. Studies show that more acetylcholine in the brain correlates with improved memory retention and the speed at which you retain that information. With today’s fast-paced world, it’s even more important to have a clearer mind in order to learn and remember important material.

Caffeine only works for a short period of time and doesn’t provide the best results in a healthy way. In fact, too much coffee and or soda pop can leave you drained and jittery, and cigarettes can lead to a whole other slew of problems like heart disease and lung cancer. So, choose Mind the next time you need a boost to help you navigate the many challenges of life and feel safer knowing it’s a healthier, more natural solution to improving memory and mental sharpness.

To your health!
