Guys Guide to a Healthier Lifestyle

It’s not an unknown fact: most men only go to the doctor when they are sick. This creates the generalization that men are much too casual or disinterested in their health. We urge that men (and women) get an annual physical so they can address any underlying concerns that may be present in their health so they can be referred to a specialist if need be. We also urge that men become at least a little interested in their health and start following these easy steps to live a balanced healthy lifestyle.

  1. Weight Management

Maintain a healthy weight through a well-balanced diet and exercise. The male body tends to change with age as testosterone levels begin to decline. Muscle mass becomes harder to keep and unhealthy pounds can start to add up. Make sure you are continuing exercise and staying active through these periods to avoid drastic changes in your muscle and heart health. Muscle Memory may be a good supplement to add to your diet if you have a need for muscle recovery and enhancement.

  1. Limit Trans-Fat Consumption

Trans-Fats are a threat to both our waistlines and hearts. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), more than one in three men have heart disease. The American diet that is full of processed, trans-fat ingredients doesn’t help this statistic. Arm yourself against heart disease risks by eliminating or limiting trans-fat in your diet. The AHA recommends closing out trans-fat consumption to 1 g a day. So become diligent in removing this harmful and in some cases, fatal ingredient.

  1. Eat More Fish

Start consuming more fish that contain essential fatty acids. The two essential fatty acids are Omega-6 and Omega-3. They are essential because our bodies don’t produce them on its own, we can only get them from our diets. Salmon, mackerel, herring, and albacore tuna all contain high amounts of essential oils. There is not set daily recommendation for essential oils, but some health organizations advise 250-500 mg per day. This number goes up if you have coronary artery disease. If you are not consuming enough fish in your diet alone, consider Omega-3 Priority for supplementation.

  1. Lycopene Influence

Lycopene is an antioxidant that gives certain foods their red coloring. This antioxidant is known for its anti-cancer properties most notably, prostate cancer. With prostate cancer being the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, it is critical that men take preventative measures. Lycopene can be found in tomatoes, watermelon, guava and pink grapefruit. The most abundant of these sources are tomatoes, and lycopene’s impact is increased when the tomatoes are cooked. If you are a male and not getting enough of these foods in your diet, our Prostate Priority contains 30 mg per serving as well as other ingredients to help maintain healthy prostate functioning.

  1. Take a Multivitamin

Not all vitamins are created equal. Before purchasing, it is important to do your research and make sure that you are spending your money on a quality product. When it comes to multivitamins, their function is to fill any diet “holes” that you may have that are inhibiting your immune system operation. Lifeguard is packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to keep diets balanced and immune systems strong for fighting diseases.

  1. Maintain Regular Physicals with your Health Care Professional

As mentioned, men are the worst offenders of doctor visit ducking. It is important that you try to break that habit. A yearly physical can keep you in check and address any concerns should they arise. Men are more susceptible to stress, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and depression so please make sure you are getting screened and treated for these and any other health concerns.

Guys, take our advice and incorporate these easy tips to become a healthier man!

Greg Pryor – September 2018 Men’s Health!

“A logical way to slow up my aging process is to keep my body and brain more fit through the use of a few essential supplements.”

September Celebrates of Men’s Health!

In today’s fast-paced lifestyles, most men are faced with increasing mental and physical demands as they age. Personally, I have found that an easy, logical way to slow up my aging process is to keep my body and brain more fit through the use of a few essential supplements with each meal.

I urge all men to consider, at least, the use of the following supplements:

  •  Lifeguard-a high-quality multivitamin created to try and help to provide immune support and fill in the gaps of your diet,
  •  Omega-3 Priority™-a potent omega-3 supplement for heart (EPA) and brain health (DHA),
  • Prostate Priority™ specific nutrients that may help promote a healthy prostate,
  •  Joint Decision™ or Total Joint Complexglucosamine that may help to support and maintain healthy cartilage health.

I feel that the consistent, daily use of the right nutrients in supplement form (and in adequate amounts!) is one of the most important health decisions that we can make. Based on the past 20 years of being in the dietary supplement industry through my company, Life Priority, and my 16 year career as a pro athlete, I feel strongly that using high-quality supplements is imperative. Your diet is most likely lacking in one or more essential nutrients. You can help yourself feel better and slow up your personal aging process by using high-quality supplements.

In addition, men are at increased risk for heart related issues including heart attack and cardiovascular disease. They are also at a higher risk for prostate cancer. Both heart disease and prostate cancer affect millions of men every year and take many away from their families and friends too soon. If men can incorporate more exercise, consume more fish with essential fatty acids (EFA’s), visit their doctors regularly and watch out for depression and high blood pressure, stop smoking and use a daily multivitamin, they can increase their life expectancy and live healthier, fuller lives.

I have been involved as a retail customer or a marketer of dietary supplements since 1991.  Don’t leave your physical and mental well-being up to anyone else! It’s your life! Your body, including your brain, is aging each day and you can give yourself a better chance at living a healthier (and happier!) life by simply using enough of the right nutrients each day with meals or at bedtime.

I helped form Life Priority, Inc. in 1994 to secure the nutritional products I wanted for my own personal use.  A major reason that Life Priority was formed was because of the research of 2 scientists who were the co-authors of a NY Times best-seller Life Extension, A Practical Scientific Approach, which was written specifically for doctors. The authors, Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw, wrote Life Extension so that doctors could understand how using certain nutrients in adequate amounts could slow up the aging process.

To Your Health!

September is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

When I turned 40 – 25 years ago – I reached a major turning point in my life.  I was not too many years from finishing a 16-year career in professional baseball, but I was also married with three young girls and was in a new career.  Tougher than dealing with all of that was the fact that, for the first time in my life, I was faced with feeling the physical and mental aging process.   I had less mental energy; I was losing my muscle mass expanding out of my size 34 jeans.  I started getting frequent mouth ulcers.  I got debilitating flu at least 2 times a year.  Luckily, in 1991, things changed for the better.

I was introduced to two nutritional research scientists, Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw, whose lives’ work was to find out how to slow the aging process. Durk and Sandy shared truthful, scientific information with me about how using certain nutrients in adequate amounts could have a dramatic effect on my health.  My wife, Michelle, and I have been sharing this information through our company, Life Priority, since 1994.

As we all age, our risks of getting heart disease, high blood pressure, cancers, dementia, and other diseases increase.  In the case of men, there is also a chance for getting prostate cancer.

Since September is National Prostate Cancer Awareness month, every year I dedicate an article to helping educate men about simple steps for how to improve the health of the prostate gland. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among men, with an estimated 239,000 men diagnosed in 2013.

Here are my 4 simple tips to promote prostate health:

  • Get a yearly physical, including a prostate exam, with a healthcare professional.
  • Set lifestyle goals! Educate yourself about what certain nutrients and foods promote overall health, especially prostate heath.
  • Exercise! Be concerned about excess belly fat.
  • Take high-quality dietary supplements! These supplements are formulated to help insure against the gaps in your diet.

For overall health and to encourage a healthy prostate, consider consuming the following list of nutrients that should be in your diet, especially men that are 40 and older:  lycopene, zinc, vitamin D-3, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin C, calcium, magnesium, B vitamins, and Co-Q 10.

It is often difficult to get enough of these nutrients from your diet.  You can get most of the nutrients listed above from Life Priority through our One-Per-Meal Lifeguard, Omega-3 Priority, Prostate Priority, Sunlife, 3-Way Calcium, Magnesium Priority, and CoQ Priority products.

I personally use all of the Life Priority supplements listed above every day.  I am almost 65 and I do not take any medications. I no longer get colds, the flu or mouth ulcers.  I have great mental energy and focus.  Most of us can’t get everything that our body needs from the diet, so we hope you’ll reach your own turning point like I did!

Treat yourself to a healthier, more energetic life. Please investigate the information on each product listed above.  For a free, personal, nutritional counseling session with me, send me an email to customerservice@lifepriority.com or call me at 1-800-787-5438.

Using some baseball terminology, I feel like I can “touch all of my bases” through the use of the 4 different Life Priority supplements below.   All men who want to “score” with their health, including the prostate, can hit a “Grand Slam” by using these 4 supplements every day:

  • One Per Meal Lifeguard™ – First Base – You can’t get to first base nutritionally without using a great multiple vitamin/mineral (multi) after  every meal to fill in the nutrition gaps lacking in your diet. One Per Meal is a potent, research-based, multi with a great blend of all of the B vitamins and potent anti-oxidants.  Take one capsule of One Per Meal Lifeguard™ 3 times a day after meals for a solid “base hit”.
  • Omega-3 Priority™ – Second Base – Get in scoring position with our Omega-3 Priority.  Omega-3 Priority is a pharmaceutical-grade, concentrated fish oil product that is good for both heart and brain health and the prostate.  Getting the essential omega-3 fatty acids in adequate amounts in the diet is difficult.  Researchers believe fish oil helps lower heart disease risk through several mechanisms: It mildly thins the blood, helps prevent arrhythmias, lowers triglyceride and homocysteine levels, and protects the cardiovascular system from inflammation. A 2011 study, a low-fat diet plus a hefty 5-gram daily dose of fish oil slowed prostate cancer cell proliferation in patients awaiting surgery. Another new study found that in healthy young people, fish oil lowered not only inflammation markers, but also anxiety.
  • Prostate Priority™ – Third Base – You are ready to score now with Prostate Priority.  Prostate Priority is a special blend of nutrients combined to support a health prostate.  These nutrients include saw palmetto, lycopene, pygeum, pumpkin seed oil extract, vitamin D3 and zinc.  Lycopene is a carotenoid found in tomatoes, papaya, and other reddish foods, Lycopene appears to increase antioxidant activity in the body protecting against DNA damage according to a recent study. The study also indicated that lycopene lowered heart disease risk factors like hypertension and C-reactive protein (CRP). Some research links high lycopene blood levels with protection against prostate and other cancers; eating lycopene-rich diced tomatoes or tomato paste also appears to protect against UV skin damage.
  • Sunlife™ – Home Plate – You will score with Sunlife.  You will get stranded on third base if you do not get adequate amounts of vitamin D3 in your diet.  One capsule of Sunlife provides 2,000 iu of Vitamin D3 in each capsule.  Despite a flood of recent research news supporting the values of vitamin D3 for the brain, bones, muscles, and the immune system, most people are deficient.  In several studies, low blood levels of vitamin D have been associated with increased heart disease risk.

I have my nutritional bases covered… Do you?  Don’t get caught looking at strike 3! An out of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Women Can be Partners in Men’s Health

Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, with as many as 30,000 men dying from this potentially deadly disease each year. The most important thing that men can do is to get tested on an annual basis in order to catch prostate cancer early and stop it in its tracks before it’s too late. Women can play a vital role in helping in the effort.

Women Can Give the Men they Love a Nudge

As a whole, women are much more consistent about staying on top of their health, making annual appointments to deal with female health issues and seeing a doctor when they occasional health concerns. However, men tend to be more reluctant about going to the doctor. They often ignore any potential symptoms and health problems and try to tough it out. This often leads to the manifestation of serious health issues that could have been prevented, or at least managed before they got worse, when men are proactive.

How can women help? Women can encourage the men in their lives to take preventative measures by going to doctor on an annual basis and getting tested for prostate cancer beginning at age 40. It only takes a simple blood test to catch this life-threatening disease in its early stages. Prostate cancer generally does not have symptoms until it is in an advanced stage, and even affecting other organs. The main goal is to diagnose this disease before it progresses, and women can continue to urge the men they love to go to make that doctor’s appointment.

Husband & Wife at Doctor's Appointment

Women Can Watch for Warning Signs of Prostate Cancer

While there are no overt symptoms of prostate cancer in early stages, there are some signals that may be warning signs. Women need to pay close attention to their loved ones in the event that there is a change in a man’s health that could indicate prostate cancer. Men often don’t complain when they are dealing with startling symptoms. Oftentimes it’s up to the women in their lives to take note of any changes, and even empower the men in their lives to take action. Signs of prostate cancer that women should look out for include:

  • Frequent visits to the bathroom
  • Urine stains on underwear
  • Complaints that the urine flow is weak and must be forced out
  • Difficulty with urinating
  • Urination that burns or is painful
  • Blood in the urine
  • Pain during ejaculation
  • Chronic pain in the thighs, hips, and lower back

Women Can Schedule the Doctor’s Appointment if Symptoms Persist

An occasional complaint is usually not a big concern. On the contrary, if men show symptoms on a daily basis that are progressively getting worse, or are showing a combination of the signs listed above, seeing a doctor is a must. And whenever there is blood during urination, there should be no delay. There is always a possibility that other issues are occurring, such as kidney stones or a urinary tract infection. But on the chance that it’s prostate cancer, time is of the essence. If you have to, schedule the appointment for him yourself. You would do anything to save his life, even if it means he’s a little cranky about it at first, wouldn’t you?

Women Can Help Catch Prostate Cancer While it is Treatable

When caught at the earliest stages, prostate cancer has an exceptionally high cure rate. But when it is ignored, it is considered the silent killer. With something as simple as a blood test to indicate that there is a problem, doctors can recommend treatment options. Every man is different and each case is unique. Determining the right fit will depend on the individual. Treatment options include monitoring, surgical removal, radiation, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, cryosurgery, bisphosphonate therapy, and biologic therapy. The treatment process will be adjusted over time as a medical team keeps tabs on progress. But the only way this can happen is if men get to the doctor’s office in time. Be diligent and do what it takes to spot the signs and get your main man into the doctor’s office!

Women Can be Partners in Men’s Health

For all the women who have stubborn men, it’s time to do more than ask them to go to the doctor. Women need to educate the men in their lives and explain to them how serious it can be if they do not take care of themselves. Remind them of what’s at stake. Awareness and prevention are key factors in promoting a man’s well-being.

It is our hope that men will recognize the fact that a visit to the physician could change their lives for the better. Making that appointment might be inconvenient. Discussing various problems can be embarrassing. Men simply don’t like to open up about their health issues. However, getting regular check-ups is the responsible choice, one that will make it much more likely to enjoy many years ahead. Women need to remind the men that they love that getting checked regularly for prostate cancer can avoid a great deal of pain and suffering.

Let’s face it – prostate cancer doesn’t only affect men. It has major consequences for everyone who cares about them, including the women who love them. Mothers, sisters, daughters, and wives can all team up during National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month to prompt their loved ones to take action. It’s a movement that can continue throughout the year to save more lives from prostate cancer.
